In the summer of 1996, with the degree shows in full swing and the city full of art, Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard were granted access to a free space for five weeks. They conceived, organised, selected, hung, opened and closed an exhibition within five weeks, filling the street and upper levels of 85 Charlotte Street, bringing together new and old work by more than forty London-based artists.

Yerself Is Steam featured a wide range of artists, including Jeremy Deller, Tracey Emin, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Tim Noble and Sue Webster, Sam Taylor-Wood, Bob and Roberta Smith, Runa Islam, Gabriel Kuri, Adam McEwen, Simon Periton, Matthew Higgs, Sarah Staton and Jessica Voorsanger.
