SOMNOPROXY AT SOMERSET HOUSE
Our immersive audio installation, Somnoproxy, features in the autumn exhibition at Somerset House. “24/7: A wake-up call for our non-stop world” is a landmark exhibition examining our inability to switch off from our 24/7 culture. It brings together 50 multi-disciplinary works that explore the unrelenting pressure to produce and consume around the clock.
Somnoproxy centres around a futuristic bedtime story written by Stuart Evers, about a conman who offers his services to sleep on behalf of wealthy executives who are too busy and stressed to sleep themselves. The narrative is read by actors Enzo Clienti and Kate Ashfield, with a sonic accompaniment we created with the Moog Sound Lab UK.
Visitors are invited to lie down in a personal auditorium called ‘Island’, designed and kindly provided by L-Acoustics Creations.
24/7 runs from 31st October 2019 to 23rd February 2020. The exhibition is curated by Somerset House and Sarah Cook, and is inspired by the book 24/7: Late Capitalism and the Ends of Sleep by New York-based art critic Jonathan Crary. More info and ticket booking: somersethouse.org.uk.
