Early in 2002, singer/songwriter Chris Starling invited Iain and Jane to make a new work in the form of the artwork for his next album. Iain and Jane greatly admire Chris' work as a musician and were delighted to be asked. A hand-labelled cassette and handwritten inlay card featured on the front and back covers of the album, with the CD booklet also incorporating the lyrics on torn fragments of paper and a Polaroid portrait of Chris. The CD body itself remains blank apart from a small handwritten sticker bearing the title of the album.
Chris Sheehan was 17 when he joined The Exponents, New Zealand's #1 group. After 7 years as a teen idol Chris left his homeland and ventured to London to escape adolescent worship and the dreaded teen phenomenon stigma. He began writing and recording under the moniker The Starlings for Dave Stewart's 'Anxious' label, releasing several EP's and the album Valid to critical acclaim.
Now releasing records under the name Chris Starling, 'Sounds like Chris Starling' is his second solo album, and was described by the NME as "a record of redemption through simplicity." The album was released by Popchild Records in November 2002. Sounds like Chris Starling Popchild web site: www.popchild.com/popchildrecords
