In June 2007 Iain and Jane travelled to Auckland to make the next in their Precious Little series, Make me Yours again. Twelve Aucklanders participated in the filming which happened over three days. Then Iain and Jane edited and produced the piece in the following week. Make me yours again is a 34 minute unscripted portrait of twelve people talking directly to the camera about music, love and loss. Iain and Jane use the premise of the homemade mix tape as a trigger to spark each of their subjects into talking openly. Watch a short online video excerpt of the work.
The fast pace of editing alternates back and forth between the talking heads, mixing their stories. There's a new narrative strand constructed through the piece, which rings with a universal sense of familiarity. The specificity of the lyrics recited, and songs mentioned doesn't matter - underlying all of this is a passion for the music that has seen each individual through their life and relationships. Forgotton memories, confessions and statements are activated by the recollection of a particular song. Participants in Make me yours again are: Laurent Antonczak, Meghan Bishop, Llano Blue, Star Blue, Patricia Burgetsmaier, Matthew Crawley, Jo Galvin, Duncan Grieve, Matt Offord, Delaney Tabron, Aaron Yap and Anya Zvezdina
Make me yours again is the fourth work in Iain and Jane's ongoing Precious Little series. It was produced specially for an exhibition of the series titled Precious Little at the Moving Image Centre Tpoi Rerehiko in Auckland, New Zealand. The series began with earlier related works, Anyone else isn't you made for The Hospital in London, Everybody else is wrong made in 2004 for Pavilion in Montreal and Fucked up lover made in 2001 for Hobbypop Museum in Dusseldorf.
Make me yours again First exhibited in Precious Little at MIC Toi Rerehiko in Auckland from June - August 2007.
